Local Adventure!

unwind April 13th, 2009

I think it’s important to instill a sense of appreciation in our families…for the good things around us!  Sometimes we can get bogged down in the negative or ugly things in the world…and really have to dig out to find the positive!  One thing I’ve tried to do over the past few years, is find local adventure…wonderful or interesting things that surround me…are offered in the cities and state that I live in!   Some things I’ve found are newer…and some things I’ve loved since childhood!

One of my favorite things about living in Albuquerque has always been the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!  Although it takes place the first two weekends in October…here you can see hot air balloons on the horizon any given day from mid-September through April!  There were two balloons up just this morning and they made me smile!

The Balloon Fiesta held in Albuquerque is the most photographed event in all the world!  There’s nothing like waking up one morning to the sound of a propane burner and a shadow drifting across the sun.  Looking up to see a balloon overhead it just a pure delight!  I love when they’re low enough that you can call, “Good morning” to the pilot and passengers…exchange friendly waves as they call, “Good morning!” in return.  I love balloons so much they even play a part in my book The Time of Aspen Falls!

Although this little video clip isn’t as serene as watching the balloons drift through the sky from your backyard…you get an idea of the sheer multitude of the balloons that launch here…and the glorious color and excitement associated with the event!

So, look around, google or ask questions of friends…and find some local adventure to lift your spirits and instill appreciation!   It’s a wonderful way to expand your mind, knowledge and delights!
